Managing the Mail Administrator account
Setting up the Mail Administrator account
When the mail server first starts up, it creates a registered user named Mail Administrator with the Internet alias "postmaster." Many Internet users and applications describe mail-related problems, such as non-delivery reports, by sending e-mail to "postmaster." You should retrieve mail from this account regularly. To use the account, you need to turn it on and assign it a password.
To set up the Mail Administrator account:
1 |
Open Mac OS Server Admin and log on to the server you want to administer. |
2 |
Press the Users & Groups button and choose Show Users & Groups List. |
|
|
3 |
Double-click the Mail Administrator account. |
4 |
If you like, enter a new name for the Mail Administrator account in the Name box. |
|
IMPORTANT: Do not change or delete the "postmaster" Internet alias. If you do, the mail server will automatically create a new account with this alias. |
5 |
Make sure the "User may log on" checkbox is selected. |
6 |
If you want, change other settings for the Mail Administrator. |
Setting up IMAP Administrator Access

On each computer from which you will administer the mail server, configure IMAP client software to connect to the mail server over port 626. |
|
IMPORTANT: The IMAP client software must support nested folders and allow the port to be changed. |
|
Registered users that have administrator privileges can log on to the IMAP Administrator Access port. |
